Schmidt, Richard F., SCHMIDT, RICHARD F. - of Ocean City, formerly of Leonia, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Shore Memorial Hospital. He received excellent care in the ER and in the second floor ICU unit. Richard was born in Jersey City, on October 12, 1926. He received his bachelors degree from Newark State Teachers College and his Masters degree from Columbia University in NYC. After serving in the US Army during the Korean War he became a teacher of Industrial Arts in Harlem, NYC for 32 years. He cared about the children at school and touched many lives there. Richard was a master craftsman and was known as a guy who could fix or build anything. After retiring he and his wife Grace traveled extensively and went on 60 cruises. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and headed around the corner to his daughters house every day for "coffee time." In his later years he loved roaming through yard sales looking for more "treasures" that he didn't need. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Grace Lionetti Schmidt, his son Richard F. Jr. and Deborah Schmidt of Brielle, his daughter Barbara and John Vaughan of Ocean City. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his grandchildren who where the lights of his life, Grandson John and Jennifer Vaughan of Ocean City, Grandson Stewart Vaughan of Ocean City, and Granddaughter Christina Vaughan of Ocean City. Relatives and Friends are invited to call on Wednesday morning from ten o'clock until 12 noon at the Godfrey Funeral Home 644 S. Shore Road Palermo, NJ.
